Interview with Sasashi Cosplay

Hello my friends , we all love to watch anime and sometimes dream to become one of our heroes , or be in that world , that’s why most brave an talented people dare to get over our day to day life and make their dreams come true. Many of us less daring and talented have the pleasure to admire at Cons in magazine or on net their work. I had to admit I seen many coplayers on forums , all on different levels of mastering this art , I had the honor to learn more about this art. Sasashie  is a very talented lady , she doesn’t only manage to look beautiful but also create fantastic costumes. I asked her to share a bit of her spare time and share her wisdom with most of us that are at the beginning of this road.

Animaboo: How many years took you to master the art of costume making ? You are very good at it.
Sasashie: I have been sewing most of my life but have been making cosplay costumes for 7 years now. I have taught myself most of my costuming skills along with going to college to learn new sewing and pattern making skills.
Animaboo: I seen many cool costumes on your page , do you have a favorite one ?
Sasashie : its hard to say what costume is my favorite as each one I love for many reasons but I can say I have 2 that are the most special to me. my Amano Rydia from Final Fantasy 4 and Amaterasu from Okami.
Animaboo: How long does it take to make a very simple costume and at what a inexperienced person should pay attention first ?
Sasashie :a simple costume can take 3 days to a week depending on how I manage my time since becoming a  mother last year i have much less time that i used to for sewing and prop making.
Animaboo: Do you like Crossplay , sometimes male characters are so cute , some girls would like to cosplay them but feel unconfident , what would you advice ?
Sasashie:i have never Crossplayed before but have many friends who do and I love to see the transformation and effort that they put in to the makeup and styling I think you should do what makes you happy regardless of what others think.
Animaboo: What is your most expensive costume you ever made ?
Sasashie: Amano Rydia cost over £400 to make and took about 8 months to make due to the high level of details I added to the costume
Animaboo: What was your first convention ?
Sasashie: October 2007 London Mcm Expo.
Animaboo: Do you have your favorite make ups ? Places that you buy your materials , or it is all random ?
Sasashie: Makeup is an important part of finishing a costume so sometimes you may have to spend a little extra get the right shade I use No7 from boots for most of my makeup and MUA for the eyeshadow pallets.
Animaboo: Do you have a costume that you want to make very badly but you can’t manage to make it yet ?
Sasashie: Lillianna from Dragon Age due to the armour and leather work.
Animaboo: Do you like taking photos of yourself when you cosplay ?
Sasashie: I take work in progress photos but I let my friends take photos of me once the costume is finished Animaboo: Some cosplayers are very shy and sometimes many good costumes stay in shadow because their owners do not have courage. What would you advice them ?
Sasashie: I used to have a fear of being on stage and would take a panic attack before I would step out to show my costume then 3 years ago I was asked to host the dee-con cosplay contest and I got the mic and out of nowhere I had the confidence to talk to all those people as most of them I knew and became so confident I don’t feel panic about it, face your fear find someone you trust if you fear getting photos taken and get them to ease you into it I only let my friend Amy take photos until I felt confident how to pose and began to let other photographers take photos of me.
Animaboo: What do you think , it is better to buy costumes or make them by yourself , which are most appreciated ?
Sasashie: if you have the time, talent and money to make a costume then go for it I love spending time making costumes for myself but also I make costumes for my friends and family who don’t have the skills or time to make costumes, I have never bought a costume but I have had to fix up a few my sister bought as it was the wrong size/colour/fabric as she didn’t take the time to find a good costume maker and bought off a e-bay seller who took her money and didn’t give her a good item so if you want to purchase a costume do your research before you give them your cash!
Animaboo: Thank you Sasashie for sharing your experience with us. Well everyone that didn’t dare to , it is time now , get inspired and start.
